SC State names new chief of police after wave of violence shook campus community
Today, we remember St. Matthews Police Department Police Officer Harry Clifton Stabler and Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sheriff Delton C. “Del” Daniels.
On this date in 1943, Police Officer Harry Stabler was stabbed to death while making an arrest. The wound was inflicted by an ice pick, which penetrated the heart. The suspect was resisting arrest when he made the attack upon the officer. Officer Stabler was transported to Tri-County Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.
On this date in 2015, Deputy Daniels died of injuries sustained when the sheriff’s office SUV he was riding in with another deputy hydroplaned on U.S. Highway 15 near McColl, lost control, and overturned into a ditch on July 20, 2015.
