Today, we remember Wagener Police Department Chief of Police Mike K. Knotts, United States Bureau of Prohibition Special Agent Mack Carroll Parsons, Laurens County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sheriff Sherman Robert Massey, and Greenville Police Department Police Officer Mathew Montgomery Beacham, Jr.

On this date in 1925, Chief of Police Mike Knotts was shot and killed as he attempted to arrest a man for being drunk and disruptive.

On this date in 1930, Special Agent Mack Parsons was killed in an automobile accident while pursuing bootleggers in Newberry County.

On this date in 1977, Deputy Massey was shot and killed as he and two other deputies attempted to serve a warrant stemming from a domestic disturbance.

On this date in 1983, Police Officer Mathew Beacham suffered a fatal heart attack during a foot pursuit.
