Today, we remember York County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sheriff James Brent McCants and City of Anderson Police Department Sergeant Ethan Ross Kaskin.
On this date in 1992, Deputy Sheriff James McCants was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Dave Lyle Boulevard, near I-77, in Rock Hill. Unbeknownst to Deputy McCants, the two occupants had just stolen the car two hours earlier while carjacking two citizens in Charlotte. Both men fled and abandoned the car nearby. They were both arrested within hours.
On this date in 2020, Sergeant Ethan Kaskin was killed when his department vehicle was struck head-on on the Highway 24 bridge, near Wham Road in Anderson County, at 6:30 am. An oncoming vehicle crossed the center line and struck his vehicle head-on, causing him to suffer fatal injuries.
