Today, we remember Orangeburg Department of Public Safety Police Officer Christian J. D. Wolfe, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Warden L. Pressley Reeves, and Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sheriff George Matthew Myers.
On this date in 1897, Officer J.D. Wolfe succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained nine days earlier while attempting to arrest a man who had assaulted another officer and who had stolen the officer’s revolver.
On this date in 1908, Warden Pressly Reeves was shot to death while returning to his home near Reevesville by an assassin hidden by the roadside.
On this date in 1926, Deputy Sheriff George Myers was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man who was wanted on a domestic abuse warrant and was a suspect in a shooting.
