We join the Florence County Sheriff’s Office – South Carolina and the entire law enforcement community in mourning the passing of Retired Sergeant Jason Plowden. Sgt. Plowden faced cancer with the same bravery that marked his 17 years of service. His impact on the lives he touched and the community he served will not be forgotten. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and those who served alongside him.

Retired Sergeant Jason Plowden, a 17-year Florence County deputy, has died after a battle with cancer, the sheriff’s office announced.

We are grateful to the members of the South Carolina delegation who voted to move LEOSA reform forward in the U.S. House. This vital legislation strengthens protections for current and retired law enforcement officers nationwide.

Thank you to Congresswoman Nancy Mace, Joe Wilson, Sheri Biggs, Rep. William Timmons, Rep. Ralph Norman, and Congressman Russell Fry for standing with law enforcement and helping advance this critical reform.

Today, we remember Marlboro County Rural Police Officer B. H. Hatcher.

On this date in 1924, Rural Police Officer Burdine H. Hatcher was shot to death by a man as he and another officer attempted to search the man’s home. B.H. and fellow officer J.H. Daugherty went to the home of Tom Dupre in search of contraband liquor. On being told of the officer’s business, Dupre secured a rifle and fired upon the officers, one bullet slightly wounding Officer Daugherty and another mortally wounding Officer Hatcher.

The National FOP Legislative Office sends out the weekly update every Friday to ensure that our members are informed regarding the issues most important to the men and women of law enforcement. https://fop.net/government-and-media-affairs/weekly-updates/

This past week, members of the South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police stood tall in our Nation’s Capital, honoring those we have lost and reaffirming our commitment to those who continue the watch.

From the candlelight vigil to the National Peace Officers Memorial Service, SCFOP was proud to represent our state, our lodges, and every South Carolina officer who serves with integrity, courage, and dedication.

We were there not just to remember the fallen—but to remind the country that the men and women behind the badge are never forgotten, and never alone.

South Carolina strong. Law enforcement united.
